Download Calmira II 3.3 with NEW installer This is the full Calmira II 3.3 release as a fully automated installer. Calmira Blackcomb: It is a modified version of Calmira Longhorn intended to mimic Windows 7's user interface, following the announcement of continual development of Calmira Longhorn. Someone will ask why don't I just run these and other old OSs in virtual machines - I do, its just more fun to run them on native hardware Calmira 3.3 must be installed before installing this update. I run dozens of vintage Windows 3.x programs software programs and suites (and some 32-bit ones with Win32s) on both the XT-486 and the Pentium system. Both systems are fully networked (10/100) via mTCP+Trumpet Winsock and both are enabled with sound and maximum rez graphics.
Windows 3.11 runs like a rocket on that box. I also have a dual boot Pentium 4 2.8GHz system running both a modern OS one one partition and Windows 3.11 on the other (I use BootIt Bare Metal for partition management). The project is called The Big Blue Beast.
Of course there is bound to be someone out there that won't believe that anyone could possibly run Windows 3.x on a PC/XT at all, let alone have an IBM 5160 running with its original 5160 motherboard with a 486DX CPU and run Windows 3.1 in protected mode with, 5MB of expanded RAM, removable solid state CF drives, and 8MB of expanded memory, but read the following link and you'll see how crazy some of us hardcore vintage computer folks are: I also run it with Calmira II as one of my favorite GUI overlays - a Win95 GUI clone.

I run PC DOS 2000 (7.1) and Windows 3.1 on an IBM PC/XT 486DX 33MHz. Remember this is an online game, it will evolve.I am a major vintage computer geek.
With the future expansions already planned this game has the potential to be something truly great.Īnyone with an interest in space games should give it a try, as while Elite has the faithful from all the way back in 84, it still has the appeal and addictive game play that will get people hooked! What we have now on release is a fully functional title, that while still needing some tweaks/balancing is very enjoyable and still in the spirit of the original.Ĭertain things have been changed somewhat to make the game more "accessible" (insurance policies, short drop out ranges at stations etc) but this hasn't been dumbed down too much in my opinion.Įlite:Dangerous is not going to be everyone's cup of tea as the game play is on a slower pace than a lot of games are these days, but the scope is immense, and with enough time put into it is very rewarding. Having watched it evolve since then, with new features being added every update etc I can say that the game has shaped up nicely. I have been following Elite:Dangerous since the Kickstarter days having backed it at a level that would give me access to premium beta.
